“Me, Myself, Dreams, and the Kisses” is a series of animated video montages that reconceptualize and reimagine masterpieces by artists like Frida Kahlo and Gustav Klimt.

Creative Brief

This series aims not only to amplify their work through immersive video in creative realms but also to depict dreams, nightmares, dualism, and ethereal perspectives that enhance the captivating nature of their art.

Approach

Most of the video montages incorporate 3D elements and found stock footage, created using After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro. Each program offers unique effects that enhance the masterpieces, transporting them into new realms.

Results

This ongoing project is intended to expand with additional video montages created using TouchDesigner, designed for projection in rounded rooms or gallery spaces. The goal is for audiences to appreciate both the reimagined masterpieces and the original creations presented in the work.

Two Fridas and The Voices (Summer 2018)

A looped video montage that reconceptualizes and animates The Two Fridas (1939) by Frida Kahlo, amplifying the idea of how Frida might have experienced conflicting voices within herself, inspiring her to paint alternate versions of her identity. The soundtrack further magnifies the internal screams she may have felt amidst the many struggles she faced in coping and managing her life.

The Kisses of Psyche (Fall 2018)

A looped video montage that magnifies and animates The Kiss (1907–1908) by Gustav Klimt, reimagining the painting as a depiction of night terrors.

La Femme De Mon Ami (Fall 2019)

La Femme De Mon Ami is a looped video montage that reimagines The Women Friends (1916–1917) by Gustav Klimt, incorporating 3D elements and motion graphics to encapsulate the characters' daydreams.

The Macrocosm and The Labyrinth Mind of Judith and Salome (Fall 2019)

A video montage that reimagines and enhances Gustav Klimt's Judith II painting into a captivating immersive video art piece. It explores the nightmarish scenario of Judith killing Salome or vice versa, presenting a labyrinthine universe of minds that challenges the viewer to question which narrative is real, which is a dream, and the nature of reality itself.
