Kinetic Posters

Motion Graphics, Illustration

Dynamic animated triptychs that convey, articulate, and emphasize my own motto: “There’s a Fine Line Between Creativity and Insanity, Crossing the Line is Sublimity.”

Creative Brief

Inspired by my own motto, “There’s a Fine Line Between Creativity and Insanity— Crossing the Line is Sublimity,” this project explores the interplay of these themes through a dynamic digital triptych. The work combines kinetic typography and motion graphics to push the boundaries of visual storytelling.

Objectives:
  • Showcase the delicate balance between creativity, chaos, and brilliance.
  • Experiment with kinetic typography to create a visually engaging and thought-provoking experience.
  • Explore innovative digital design techniques to redefine the concept of modern posters.
Objectives:
  • Designers, artists, and creatives seeking inspiration in experimental and conceptual design.
  • Audiences interested in the intersection of art, philosophy, and technology.
  • Individuals who appreciate avant-garde visuals and the exploration of abstract ideas.

Approach

  • Designers, artists, and creatives seeking inspiration in experimental and conceptual design.
  • Audiences interested in the intersection of art, philosophy, and technology.
  • Individuals who appreciate avant-garde visuals and the exploration of abstract ideas.

Results

The graphic elements were animated to move fluidly across all corners of the three triptychs, creating dynamic transitions that bring together the themes of creativity, insanity, and sublimity into a cohesive visual experience.

The motion of typography reflects the essence of each theme, allowing every triptych to maintain its distinct identity while contributing to the overall unity of the series.

Additionally, this project serves as a foundation for creating multi-screen and multi-dimensional displays. Each screen can play motion graphics individually, yet they can also synchronize to present a unified experience, seamlessly harmonizing the complete themes across diverse formats.

Tools and skills used for this project

As a maximalist who obsessed with intricate, elaborate, and complex layers, creating these kinetic triptych posters posed quite a challenge.

I meticulously incorporated various shapes and forms into animated photomontages. Furthermore, I seamlessly integrated all these elements to resonate, amplify, and emphasize my motto "There's a Fine Line Between Creativity and Insanity, Crossing the Line is Sublimity." This was a requirement of the assignment — to elegantly convey our mottos through our artworks. Moreover, I went beyond my boundaries by crafting an excess of kinetic triptych posters. Even though the course required just one, I saw this as an perfect opportunity to further showcase my skills and expand the artworks into a series of polyptychs.

Additionally, these kinetic triptych posters are required to be seamless loops. As previously mentioned, the intricate layers must be meticulously positioned to ensure a flawless loop, even within the 8-second time frame of the animation. My objective for this project is to encourage the audience to take their time exploring my artworks, as they contain numerous "sublime" elements waiting to be discovered. Despite the distinct complexity, madness, and chaos, all the elements are thoughtfully arranged and harmoniously resonate with each other.

Conceptualization/Drafts

Initially, the triptychs were designed to function like a split-flap display, generating words dynamically. However, the approach felt too abstract and conceptual, failing to effectively highlight the key motto words: "creative," "insanity," and "sublimity."

While the design approach remained innovative, it lacked the boldness and visual impact to fully embody the intended wild and exceptional aesthetics. Despite this, the mockups could be repurposed and refined for future projects.

This draft was designed with interactive gestures, allowing users to click on any word to make it expand and bounce into view. The words, randomly generated and infinite, form a scattered and floating display originating from a central point towards the user.
