Inverno

or L'inverno sublime di Tirakas

Typography Design
This unique typeface, named in Italian as "Il Sublime Inverno di Tirakas," translates roughly to "The Sublime Winter of Tirakas," or simply "Inverno." Other Romance languages such as Spanish, French, and Portuguese will be used in this series to present other three seasons.

Creative Brief

Influenced by Art Nouveau and Puccini's operas, this typeface is crafted to exude a sense of exquisite, timeless, elaborate, and intricate sensations.

Approach

While this design currently focuses on the letter case, the use of graph paper and sketching has aided in understanding how to craft the type based on its anatomy.

Results

The final result showcases a nuanced interplay between theatricality and sensuality in the typography, echoing the influences of Art Nouveau and Puccini's work. Refinements for uppercase and ligatures are currently in progress.
Tools and skills used for this project
Artworks designed by using Inverno Typeface

I tend to design four distinct typefaces, each resonating with one of the four seasons. For their names, I employ Romance languages such as Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and French. Among the first typefaces I created is called “Il Sublime Inverno di Tirakas,” translating to “Tirakas’s Sublime Winter” in Italian. This series, including the mentioned font, was developed from sketches. The remaining fonts will encompass:

  1. Primavera Encantadora de Tirakas” (Portuguese) meaning “Tirakas’s Enchanting Spring”
  2. L’été merveilleux de Tirakas” (French) signifying “Tirakas’s Marvelous Summer”
  3. El glorioso otoño de Tirakas” (Spanish) translating to “Tirakas’s Glorious Autumn”

Sketching Phase

While the typeface is exclusively designed in lowercase, the final presentation of this font showcases grids to visually demonstrate how the font follows the principles and anatomy of type. The grids highlight aspects like x-height, letter-spacing, baseline, serif, stroke, ascender, and descender, providing a clear representation of the meticulous design considerations incorporated into the font.
